Steel Sheet Sheathed Cold-Formed Steel Framed In-line Wall Systems. I: Impact of Structural Detailing

The North American construction industry has seen substantial growth in the use of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing for midrise buildings recent years. In seismic zones, CFS-framed utilize shear walls to provide primary lateral resistance earthquake induced loads. Although oriented strand board (OSB) and plywood panels have been traditionally used as sheathing material these essential components, more recently, sheet emerged a novel strategy due its strength, ductility, ease installation, noncombustible material, among other benefits. To address paucity data regarding wall response within actual lines buildings, two-phased experimental effort was conducted. Wall-line assemblies were fabricated tested with placed in-line gravity walls. chord stud packs include tie-rod consistent multi-story detailing. Specimens either unfinished or finished, laid out symmetrical unsymmetrical fashion line. addition, both Type I II anchorage detailing investigated. this paper, impact test variables governing structural are quantified through dynamic quasi-static tests, companion paper presents findings architectural variations on performance.
